I’m so flipping over this cold weather! It’s the kind of cold that cuts deep into your bones. into your soul. We were totally teased by the sun last week. But now we’re back to the fun guessing game of whether it’s going to rain/snow/hail/windstorm. This is the wonderful time of the year when winter starts taking a toll on our bodies – chapped lips, dry skin, dehydration. Ya know, everything we try so hard to avoid. So, here are a few of my best tips and products for keeping my skin healthy, moisturized, and glowing for spring.
1. WATER. – #1 Best thing for your skin (and health in general). It’ll keep you hydrated which makes your skin appear more ‘plump’ and less wrinkled. Every morning, right when I wake up, (yes before coffee) I drink just hot water with Himalayan salt/sliced lemon. It wakes me up. Than I’ll make my own morning elixir of chia seeds, lemon juice apple cider vinegar mixed- let it sit for about 10 minutes. Dilute with water. Chug that shit. During the day I am sipping on some liquid gold water with a Hydration Multiplier; Electrolyte Powder! You can find those here. It really does helps me drink more water! There’s a few different flavors.
2. MAKE UP REMOVER- ALWAYS wash your face girl!!! Remove makeup before bed!!! It’s such a no brainer & although it may work to not wash your face when you’re young, this will catch up to you! So will sleeping with that mascara! (I loooove this remover . It seriously rids every damn thing on your face before you wash with your cleanser.) If you aren’t washing your face; the bacteria on your pillow from the previous night can cause blemishes and redness & you miss out on moisturizing and anti-aging treatments that could’ve been on alll night ladies! Wash yo face. I try to make it a therapeutic routine and something I’m excited for at night even with tired eyes. I wash my face twice a day – in my morning shower and if not then, I do for sure at night before I sleep.
3. EAT HEALTHY. – The foods you eat have major impact on your complexion. We eat tons of salmon, sweet potatoes, leafy greens, sautéed veggies, and eggs! I always make sure to get in some sort of anti aging food/smoothie through out my day. Smoothies are so quick & easy. I am always craving them! Some of my favorite ingredients for glowing skin are avocados, blueberries, kale, turmeric, chia seeds, honey, coconut milk & my unflavored collagen protein. You can find that here.
4. EXERCISE. – I know it’s easy to talk about sometimes & not always have the motivation. But working out with friends and making it a fun challenge helps to stay active which stimulates blood circulation= good for your skin. AND it definitely reduces my stress and anxiety – which we all know can cause breakouts. I’ve been trying to get to my Barre classes more often in the mornings. The regular exercise routine is definitely something you just need to force yourself to get into.
5. JADE ROLL. – Wanna know what my skin suffers the most with? bags. EYE BAGS. Fluid that builds up around my eyes when I sleep. than when I wake, that fluid becomes those awful dreaded puffy eye bags. The best way to reduce them? Reach for a roller. Not an exercise roller – I’m talking about a jade roller, that has powerful skin benefits. Gently massage the roller over the contours of your face to kick your lymph flow into gear and drain any fluid build-up from under your eyes and along your jaw! I leave mine in the fridge for an extra cool feeling.
6. TURN DOWN THE HEAT. – I’m so guilty of a hot hot shower being my absolute favorite daily escapes. I know I know. BUT- although a steamy shower may feel great, it’s one of the worst things you can do for your skin. Not only does the heat strip the skin’s beneficial natural oils, but it creates a mild burn! This happens to me way too often..ugh! Blood vessels respond by dilating in an effort to cool the skin, causing flushing and ruddiness. Sometimes your skin can recover from being red & swollen in an hour when you’re young . But as you age, your skin just doesn’t have the ability to shrink back to its original state, so make sure you turn down that dial!
7. EXFOLIATE. – You spray tan too?! Exfoliating is so important! Regular exfoliation is essential because it rids dull, dead skin cells to allow younger, healthier- looking cells to surface! I also dry brush & that stimulates the lymphatic system which removes toxins from the body. Take a hot bath after dry brushing/exfoliating. I love this Palmer’s Raw Coconut Sugar for my FACE/ NECK. And this Palmer’s one for my body.
8. DRY BRUSHING. – Let’s talk about it. Who knew it was a fricking thing? My mom always had one while we were growing up and I would love using it when I showered in her bathroom. You brush your teeth and hair right? Why not your face/neck/ and body? Dry brushing is exactly what it sounds like… brushing the skin in a particular pattern with a dry brush, before showering! I love using this facial oil from Palmer’s with my dry brush. It’s made with coconut oil, sweet almond oil, & tahitian monoi oil…infused with tiare flower petals! The raw natural ingredients drench skin in moisture (never greasy) for improved texture and appearance but still soothes & comforts skin.
You can find yourself a dry brush here!
9. MOISTURIZE. – Use hyaluronic acid. It’s become such a hot product to use on your skin. Skin looking a bit thirsty? Slather on moisturizer or serum that is rich in hyaluronic acid. This heavy-hitting hydrator can hold up to 100x its own weight in water, meaning it’ll draw water into every layer of the skin and hold it there..and it shows! I’m obsessed with the Palmer’s Coconut Water Facial Moisturizer! Smells like straight coconuts. The simple key ingredients are Coconut Water which replenishes and rehydrates skin. Hyaluronic Acid that boosts moisture and radiance and papaya enzymes that infuse the skin with antioxidants! I moisturize after the shower!
